The artist has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which works to protect the Britain's small live music spots.

The star was given the prize on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was chosen as the best record of the past year.

He has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part small stages played in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

He also joined in, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds supported venues that were facing imminent closure due to challenges caused by floods, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in modernizing infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from concerts in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to give his honor prize money to worthy causes.

When Pulp received the prize in the year 1996 for their release their work, vocalist the singer announced that the act would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her bounty across several charities, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," she shared with the media.

In recent years, the band gave their prize money to the youth organization that developed their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year they gave their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," said artist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had saved two small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the second in the city were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the venues.
